From the very start of their band Tango Crash, the two Argentinians Daniel Almada and Martin Iannaccone have consequently taken their own path. They became trailblazers of electronic tango music with their mixture of tango, jazz and modern electronic music. After their third album, „Baila Querida“ (Dance, my sweatheart), that was granted the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik (The German Record Critics´ Award), „Accidente de Tango“ (tango crash) is a clear statement that tango is by far more than dance music. Electronics and digital media were patrons for the title of the new album. The band´s long-time fellow-musician and saxophonist Rodrigo Dominguez, who had played with the band in a concert for the NDR (north German radio broadcaster), had the review of their gig in Hamburg translated by a search engine. The result was the translation of the band name as „Accidente de Tango“ (tango crash). In the context with the name of the band, this title is a strong statement and also an important musical positioning. Since its founding, Tango Crash single-mindedly has been looking for new ways of expression in tango and has never conceeded to commercial aspects. The kind of tango that Tango Crash plays has always found its playmates in jazz, modern classical music, in electronic music, in bizarre stories, however, they have always kept to their music compass. Danceable tunes are not the topic, on the contrary, the music of Tango Crash is the ample proof that tango music, as style as well as a means of expression, is universial in the adaption of new forms and arrangements.

The standard line-up of the band, with Daniel Amada (piano), Martin Iannaccone (cello, electric bass, vocals), Christian Gerber (bandoneón) and Gregor Hilbe (percussion), was joined by Martin Klingeberg (trumpet). „Accidente de Tango“ again presents more important musicians who accompanied the band in the past few years, like Nicolas Nobili (text and voicing), Hernán Lopecito Newbery (text and voicing), Marico Doctor (percussion), Rodrigo Dominguez (saxophon), Martin Almada (guitar) and DJ Chimango (scratches). „Accidente de Tango“ is also influenced by the 1970s jazz-rock music of Miles Davis, Weather Report and Joe Zawinul, who became one of the first prominent fans of the band. For some pieces Martin Iannaccone switched from cello to electric bass, thus the sound of the band becoming more electronic than electric. This offered the band the opportunity for more musical range and dynamics.

„Accidente del Tango“ is the fourth album of one of the most exciting tango groups that have emerged in the last 10 years. Its music is definitely not intended to trip the tango dancer, however, it shows that the revolution of tango which Astor Piazolla started has not at all found its final destination in tango electrónico, but offers a infinite opportunities for changes and new creations.
