“Woanders” is Georg Ringsgwandl’s 10th studio album, which was first released in September 2016. Featuring tracks such as “Sitz di her”, “Oberpfalz”, “Dorf” and “Woanders” – which have established themselves as classics in Ringsgwandl’s repertoire over the last 10 years – this album has become one of the most successful and finest in the Bavarian singer-songwriter’s career. The constant demand for ‘Woanders’ meant that the CD had not been available to order through normal channels for some time. To mark the 10th anniversary of ‘Woanders’, the album will be re-released in September 2026 as a CD featuring nine bonus tracks, as well as – for the first time – a vinyl edition, which will include the bonus tracks as MP3 downloads.

“Elsewhere is what longing yearns for. Elsewhere, we would have become something magnificent. Anyone who doesn’t suit us belongs elsewhere. Problems come from elsewhere, every note we play, every thought.” This is how Georg Ringsgwandl describes the album’s title. The musical concept was to record an album with unamplified instruments in a living room. From the initial idea to the six-day recording session in spring 2016, it took five years and a few hundred concerts for the band to develop the tone and grooves needed to reconcile the rich sound of natural instruments with the driving rhythms.

As Ringsgwandl writes in the foreword to the booklet accompanying the reissue, the project was also in jeopardy in early 2016, as an illness had severely weakened him and his voice would have been too weak without the help of the doctors at the UKM Murnau. Despite – or perhaps because of – its acoustic sound, the album was a huge success and was showcased in concerts from Graz to Kiel, at Berlin’s Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, the Munich Kammerspiele, the Bremen Theatre and the legendary Wirtshaussaal in Riedering.

But it wasn’t just the audience who were thrilled; the press were also impressed, and *Woanders* was awarded the German Record Critics’ Prize, the RUTH World Music Prize and the Bavarian Culture Prize. Stubenmusik was part of Georg Ringsgwandl’s music even amidst the bizarre performances of the 1980s and 1990s, and on the legendary solo album *Staffabruck* from 1993, it was a consistent theme. Thus, when asked by an NDR journalist whether, after thirty years of various experiments, he had finally found his style, the artist simply replied, ‘YES’.

The nine bonus tracks now included in the anniversary edition were recorded live following the album’s release in 2016 at concerts in Berg am Starnberger See, Berlin and Ingolstadt. With the exception of ‘Dreeck’, which comes from the 2006 album ‘Der schärfste Gang’, all the tracks are from ‘Woanders’. A particular highlight is the mobile phone recording of the title track, which was made during a living-room session in Frankfurt am Main in 2013 and, despite – or perhaps because of – the poor recording quality, allows the listener to hear and feel the quality of the song and the Ringsgwandl Band.
