MADE IN DUBLIN is a previously unreleased studio album by American pianist Tommy Flanagan, recorded in Dublin and featuring local drumming legend John Wadham and a young New York bass player, Lindsey Horner.
"A must for anyone likes jazz piano, bebop, standards or simply music" BeBop Spoken Here
The recording was an impromptu session suggested by John Wadham following a concert the trio gave in August 1984. The five trio and three solo tracks include compositions by Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Oscar Pettiford, Thad Jones, Jerome Kern and George Gershwin. Lindsey recalls that Tommy was in a “bluesy mood” and wanted to keep things loose. It was John Wadham who suggested Tommy play a few solo tunes.
The results are sparkling versions of many well-known tunes, great trio interplay and three solo gems.
Interestingly, Blues in the Closet, was also on Tommy’s 1984 album release, with Tony Williams and Ron Carter.
Lindsey Horner contributes the sleeve notes.
