The T.I.M. trio consists of two Norwegian avantgarde
musicians, Karoline Wallace
and Inger Hannisdal, and French keyboardist
Sébastien Palis. Their music, oscillating
between light and shadow, acoustic and
electronic sounds, is based on imaginary folk
songs, improvisations, and childlike, playful
lyrics, drawing inspiration from both
the musical heritage of Scandinavia and
the Middle East.
The music of T.I.M., oscillating between light and
shadow, acoustic and electronic sounds, is based on
imaginary folk songs, improvisations, and childlike,
playful lyrics. The trio consists of two Norwegian
avant-garde musicians, Karoline Wallace and Inger
Hannisdal, and French keyboardist Sébastien Palis,
who is also the composer of their repertoire. The
experimental folk music they create springs from
their own musical roots and interests, unfolding
on the wings of imagination yet always in the
spirit of simplicity. At times they look north toward
Scandinavia; at others, they turn to the traditional
music of the Middle East. Wallace complements
his vocals with lo-fi electronics and a four-track
tape recorder, lending the album a soft and solemn
character, while Inger Hannisdal creates a unique
duality using the traditional Norwegian stringed
instrument, the Hardanger fiddle, on the one hand,
and incorporating her deep knowledge of Middle
Eastern music on the other. The multifaceted nature
of the trio’s work is also reflected in their name,
which can be interpreted in several ways: the
acronym T.I.M. stands for Tomorrow Is Minimalist,
Three Independent Motions, or Tall, Infinite,
Microscopic.
In 2024, T.I.M. was selected for the Jazz with
program run by the French organisation AJC, which
supports the career development of adult musicians.
Consequently, they have performed at numerous
venues across Europe in recent years and also played
at the 2026 Jazzdor Budapest–Strasbourg Festival
at the BMC Opus Jazz Club. The trio’s repertoire
consists of compositions by Sébastien Palis, who is
a member of the Les Vibrants Défricheurs collective,
the keyboardist for the band Papanosh, and also plays
the accordion as Frédéric Jouhannet’s duo partner.
Norwegian singer Karoline Wallace is primarily active
in the folk and improvisational scenes; in addition
to her work with the band Molecules, she is also
known for her collaborations with Signe Emmeluth
(saxophone) and Szymon “Pimpon” Gąsiorek (drums).
Violinist Inger Hannisdal is also of Norwegian origin,
but she has complemented the experience she gained
in her home country – particularly as a member of
the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra – with research into
Middle Eastern music during her years in Lebanon
(Assa’aleek Band, Sharqi Ensemble).
