Steffi Narr and Oli Steidle converse – and let us listen in. On their joint debut, they shape
and discard sonic perspectives in free dialogue, riding the rhythm of fleeting moments.
Their tension-charged improvisations unfold into a strange calm amidst continuous
sensory overload. The pieces catch the ear and whisper unrelated stories through a tincan
telephone.
Oli Steidle, recipient of the German Jazz Prize, is known from bands like Der Rote
Bereich, Klima Kalima, or as the leader of The Killing Popes and SoKo Steidle. Steffi Narr,
awarded the Kathrin Prize by the Jazzinstitut Darmstadt in 2025, explores the guitar as a
malleable sound generator – letting it bite, nestle, and glide through a thicket of split
seconds.
The reins stay loose on this ride through glowing sonic terrains. Synaesthetic spaces
unfold. The album Ghost Ants reflects a time of shuffled information – at times urgent, at
others tranquil, but always intense. Something is lying in wait – and only wants to play.
