Colombia and Mexico are two
nations with deep cultural ties.
Cumbia settled in Mexico until it
became Mexican. Rancheras are
part of the sentimental and sensorial
education of Colombians. The more
we approach the immense diversity
of musical genres in the two
countries the more similarities and
ties we find. Using as starting point a
creation-research lab and a
dialogical aesthetic between
tradition and contemporaneity, this
proposal will unveil the common
roots and spiritual fraternity
between Colombia and Mexico
through their music.
Lucía Pulido’s ensemble and its
project Colombia and Mexico, Two
Peoples One Root, is a work that
makes visible the musical and
cultural wealth of both nations,
where diverse histories and sounds
are intertwined by musicians from
different trends, combining a great
variety of popular rhythms of both
countries, such as cumbia, trova
yucateca, petenera, bambuco,
pirekuas and guabinas, among
others. It is a musical proposal
bordering the Mexican and the
Colombian, addressing traditional
and experimental musical sounds,
and including original compositions.
