Inventionis Mater was born as a project with the encounter between the clarinet player Pierpaolo Romani and the guitarist Andrea Pennati in 2011. Their purpose is to write down Zappa's great music for a duo so little frequented as the clarinet and guitar duo is. Inventionis Mater certainly does not answer to the question of what meaning Frank Zappa had for rock music and what for classical music of the late twentieth century. But they take the bright and eccentric rock of Frank Zappa and return it back to the audience in a duo transcription reduced to the need of essentiality. A transcription that is translation, never distortion. A trip between stylistic and timbre versatility, from rhythm'n blues to twelve tones atmospheres. A duo that tells a story in which the protagonist is an American composer who was able to draw from rock music of the XX century what the great romantic composers drew from folk music. One of the few who knew how to use the difficult simplicity resulting from the purification of complexity.
If someone had told us when we was teenagers that one day we would be recording with Napoleon Murphy Brock, we would have... we don't even know how to complete the sentence. Eventually it happened! After three studio albums, The Inventionis Mater (Andrea Pennati on guitar and Pierpaolo Romani on clarinets) is back in the studio with Dimention(i)s Mat(t)er, an all-Zappa record featuring Napoleon Murphy Brock (voice and sax), Ferdinando Romano (double bass), Eleonora Zamboni (violin), Stevan Joka (electric guitar and mandolin), Sergio Odori (percussion). Dimensions also matter for the production of this album, as testified by the many who have contributed to its realisation. And the friends you find on the cover, they're not only in it for the money, but constitute a wacky community that truly loves gathering around Frank's music, among old and new friends. Thanks a lot to all of them (especially Leonardo)! A special thanks goes to our dear friend Antero Valério, an amazing artist who, as in the other albums, adds enormous value to our work with his artwork. So we hope you enjoy listening to it, because we really enjoyed playing it!
