      Description hide

KOSKILLEO is a Fusion band which uses the language of Flamenco (melodies, harmony, compás, etc.) in a very personal way. The essence of KOSKILLEO is in the daring marriage of Latin jazz and funk with flamenco, a unique sound where traditional flamenco instruments, like Spanish guitar, cajón, and palmas mingle with Latin and Mediterranean percussions, drums, bass, piano, keyboards and both alto and soprano saxophone.
Flamenco dance is complementary to the music, adding visual beauty and vital energy to KOSKILLEO’s unique sound.

KOSKILLEO´s history starts in Barcelona´s district called Gracia, three streets away from the small square dedicated to the urban teller, Gato Pérez, unforgettable Rumbero who left an indelible print in the city of Barcelona but also in the spirit of the band’s pianist alias "two hands" Ruiz, who accompanied this grand Master of the Rumba in the last path of his artistic life.

La Isla is the name of the album and the show of the band who combines, with a great display of energy and feeling, Flamenco Fusion music and Flamenco dance.

It is the result of years of reflection, work and the will to put in music, words and dance the feeling of a man which, moved away from his native village in the South of Spain when he was 10 years old, grew up a suburbia town of Barcelona, feeling nostalgia for the South. It is in the Barcelona of the 80´s that this man explored different musical languages, like Jazz and Fusion and studied in "EL TALLER DE MUSICS" one of Barcelona´s best jazz institutes. In that period he will witness the brilliant work of artists and musicians like Carles Benavent, Joan Albert Amargós both Catalans, as well as Jorge Pardo, who accompanied the worldwide known Cantaor Camaron de La Isla, and were pioneers of one the most interesting musical tendencies of the South of Europe of the past 25 years: that of the marriage of Flamenco, Mediterranean influences´ and Jazz creating a radically personal and unique style: the Flamenco Fusion.

Joaquin Murillo is this man, leader and composer (lyrics and music) of KOSKILLEO. He is also the Saxophonist (alto and soprano).
Alba Guerrero, Flamenco Singer belongs to the new generation of “cantaores” formed in Seville by Naranjito de Triana.
Olivier García "El Kangrejo", is a French Flamenco Singer successor of a long flamenco tradition family from Morón de la Frontera (Seville).
Paco Garfia is a young Flamenco Guitarist from Cañizares’ school.
Emilio "Two Hands" Ruiz, Pianist, has collaborated in the most important rumba and Latin music bands such as Gato Pérez, Parrita or Childo Tomás, La Platería...
David Domínguez, Cajón Flamenco and Percussion is a young pioneer of modern flamenco percussion in Catalonia also expert in other percussion (derbuka, djembé, tinajas, etc); occasionally musician of important flamenco artists as Duquende or Montse Cortés.
Joe Lewis, Electric Bass, born in Tennessee, living in Barcelona, has played in projects covering styles that range from African to flamenco fusion and funk music, blues and more.
Armand Albertí, drums, has experience in Latin-Jazz and Funk bands, and as session musician.
Marina González, Flamenco Dancer acquired her experience directed by Eva Yerbuena, la Chana, Belén Maya, Rocío Molina, Rafaela Carrasco, Javier Latorre, Juan de Juan, Antonio Canales. She won various choreography awards in Catalonia in 2002, 2006 and 2007.
