Award-winning saxophonist and composer Manuel Dunkel along with his jazz quartet will release a new album on the 5th of November 2021 (and on 26th of November on streaming platforms). The album, titled Northern Journey, is characterized by the same expressive intensity that has made Dunkel one of the biggest names in Finnish jazz for the past two decades. A single from the album will be released on 29 October 2021.
Besides Dunkel himself, the Manuel Dunkel Quartet comprises pianist Alexi Tuomarila, bassist Antti Lötjönen and drummer Jaska Lukkarinen. This virtuoso ensemble is known particularly for their melodious expression and unique sound, soon to be heard and enjoyed on the new album.
With six albums under his belt thus far, Dunkel has been celebrated as one the most proficient Finnish jazz musicians since the 1990s. In addition to his own projects, Dunkel has collaborated with several other groups and artists over the years, both Finnish and international. He has played in jazz groups such as UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, Jukka Perko & Hurmio-orkesteri and Platypus Ensemble. He has also performed together with the likes of Paul Jackson, Rick Margitza, Eric Truffaz and Kenny Wheeler.
