In 1980, Daniel Humair, François Jeanneau and Henri Texier
recorded the music for a documentary titled Akagera devoted
to the lives of the great animals of Africa.
Directed by Gérard Vienne and broadcast in 19 episodes of 52
minutes each on a French national TV.
Akagera is the Nile, the birthplace of Rwanda. The land of a
thousand hills on the Tanzanian border. These majestic landscapes
are conducive to dreams and singular beauty.
The instrumentation (sax / bass / drums) here favors the call to
travel and reflects an extremely rich musical atmosphere. The
three musicians, also composers, each contribute to playing on
original themes, tinged with Africa and savannahs, inexhaustible
subjects of experimental improvisations. Featuring Gordon Beck
on piano.
41 years later, Akagera is being reissued on vinyl and CD to meet
many requests from all over the world.
Akagera remains an essential album to rediscover and listen to
with your eyes closed.
