In an amazingly short time, LA KINKY BEAT has emerged as one of the revelations of the Barcelona music scene. Founded in May 2003, following the fusion of diverse projects, the band celebrated its first concert in July. The group’s concert schedule has been equally intense with close to 100 appearances in less than a year, fifty percent of which have been outside of Spain, where the group has performed mostly in France, Italy and Belgium, but also in Germany, Holland and Switzerland.

Matahary and Willy Fuego (singers) formed the group together with Donato (bass player with Trimelón) and Gerard (drummer with Radio Bemba) to which Manel (percussionist with Trimelón) and Madjid (guitarist with Radio Bemba) later signed on, followed by DJ Chamán. Following the widespread impact of their first demo, for which they won the international demo competition in 2003, sponsored by radiochango.com and Radio France International, the group released its first CD produced by Kasba Music, titled “Made in Barna”. The CD includes 15 tracks which range between rock steady, reggae, punk and the more savage side of “mestiza” music, produced by Stephane Carteaux (producer of Cheb Balowski and Trimelón, among others).

Their live concerts vibrate; built on frenetically paced, uninterrupted playing and ardent interpretations of songs, energized by rock steady, reggae and a mix of high intensity punk rock.

Despite touring intensely throughout Europe in 2005, La Kinky Beat released their Remix-CD, packed with funky, new versions of Made in Barna Titles, remixed not only by La Kinky´s musicians, but also by lots of musicians of the Barcelona Music Scene. Again on their current album "One more time" their affinity to electronic music is obvious: samples, effects and phat beats, mostly thanks to the latest Kinky DJ Rude (Banda Basotti, Roy Paci/Aretuska),that go perfectly with the punk and rocksteady energy of the kinky style. We´re really looking forward to their new album "Karate Beat", which will be released in March 2008, and of course to seeing them again rocking live during their Karate Beat World Tour 2008!
