With the follow up to their 2016 debut, Fru Skagerrak takes a confident leap forward in what they
describe as "panScandinavian raw folk".
The past two years have given the band an undeniable presence. They have payed attention to every
detail, and from beginning to end “Ankerdram” shows the band's clear development in their
interplay, refinement of their expression and subtle finesse.
As before, they present a good mix of traditional music from the Skagerrak region (in a wide sense), songs in all three
languages, sometimes even at the same time, and add several of their own compositions. On "Ankerdram" they have
expanded from a combination of fiddles, recorder and singing to also include the viola, adding more depth to their
sound!
Fru Skagerrak the three recognized fiddlers and contemporary composers
Maja Kjær Jacobsen from Denmark (Fiddle, vocals),
Elise Wessel Hildrum from Norway (Fiddle, recorder, viola, vocals) og
Anna Lindblad from Sweden, (Fiddle, 5-stringed fiddle, vocals, triangle)
The title of the album is inspired by the time they spend traveling; living in 3 different countries, there will always be
at least two of them who have to travel when Fru Skagerrak meet. They have performed together more than 50
times on stages in 11 different countries, and a total of 5 nationalities were involved in the making of "Ankerdram".
For Fru Skagerrak "Ankerdram" is therefore the epitome of international community and friendship.
They write themselves:
“Ankerdram" means “anchor dram”: to serve a little dram after safely dropping anchor and let the calm set in
wherever you are. As a touring musician, life on the seven seas can be stressful and hard at times. What makes it
worthwhile, no matter where we go, is reuniting and dropping anchor with good friends.
As coproducer
and sound engineer, they collaborated with the Finnish multiinstrumentalist Antti Järvelä, whom himself is an
experienced international musician in bands like JPP (FI), Baltic Crossing (UK / FI / DK) and Frigg (FI).
Fru Skagerrak has shared the stage with legends such as La Bottine Souriante and Le Vent du Nord (QC), Laura
Cortese & The Dance Cards (USA), Ana Egge & The Sentimentals (USA / DK), and during the next twelve months they
will be touring in USA, Canada, Europe and Australia.
