“Tango Siempre - a brilliant fusion of classical, tango, jazz and roots”
- The Guardian
Tangents is the fabulous new album from the UK’s leading Tango ensemble Tango Siempre. It was born from last year’s collaboration between the band, jazz saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and drummer/remixer Steve Argüelles.
The resulting album is a powerful and ground-breaking fusion of tango and jazz. The music is passionate, intense, soulful and unique on the British music scene, breathing new life into nuevo tango with fiery improvisation, sparkling collective interplay and solid grooves. With the exception of a groovy cover of La Cumparsita and a new work by Gilad Atzmon (fusing Arabic, tango and jazz elements), all the music is written by Tango Siempre.
Inspired by tango, jazz and contemporary music, Tango Siempre have developed their own unique and eclectic style of tango. Since their formation in 1998 they have toured extensively in the UK and Europe, collaborated with internationally renowned artists including the London Mozart Players, bandoneonist Victor Villena (of Gotan Project), drummer/remixer Steve Arguelles, the dancers of Arte Latino Cultural Project, and commissioned new music by composers as diverse as Huw Warren, Pablo Ziegler and Will Gregory. Tangents is their third and finest album.
The album is launched at the Pizza Express Jazz Club, Dean St, Soho on June 9th and 10th. The tour also includes dates in Camberley, Warrington, Powys, Lichfield and Exeter. Full tour details are attached.
“…twisting and turning the ever malleable form of tango into a very contemporary end. Tango has never been so dizzyingly cross-cultural”
“Tango Siempre can do passion, drama, melancholy beauty and sentimentality… they play with a fiery spirit that goes hand in fist with virtuosity and precision. Tango, like God, and like the Devil, is in the details.”
- John L. Walters, The Guardian
