Kirill Petrenko

The Frankfurt Opera was able to win today’s shooting star among conductors for Palestrina. In 2007 and 2009, Kirill Petrenko was awarded the title ‘Conductor of the Year’ by the magazine “Opernwelt”.

Since then, his career has taken a steep upwards turn. In summer 2013, Petrenko will conduct the Ring des Nibelungen for the composer’s 200th birthday in Bayreuth. The Bavarian State Opera has appointed him its General Music Director as of the 2013/14 season. At the same time, OehmsClassics’ release of Palestrina represents the first entire recording of an opera conducted by Kirill Petrenko. The press was unanimously enthusiastic about the the musical side of the opera:

(…) Above all, this event is of a musical nature. At the desk of the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra stands the young Russian Kirill Petrenko, who has time and time again drawn attention to himself with his exceptional results – in Berlin, in Lyon, in Munich, and now in Frankfurt. (…)
