Lebanese musicologist Dr. Afif Alvarez Bulos and his ensemble present a recital of Arabic muwashahat music in this 1976 release. Muwashah is a type of vocal composition common in modern classical Arabic songs which follows the rules of muwashah poetry with respect to the number of lines, the length of the line, meter, and rhyme. This album showcases both the older Spanish Andalusian muwashahat, which dates to medieval times, and the modern muwashahat style. Bulos includes musical notation and translation of poetry in the liner notes, along with a sample of the Andalusian muwashah in Arabic script.
