Esperanza Fernandez

Discography
Flamenco and literature continue to demonstrate their affinity. Lorca, Machado, Alberti and Miguel Hernández have already been sung to the flamenco beat. And Esperanza Fernández now takes her regard a bit further, setting her sights on the Portuguese writer Saramago. The Sevillian cantaora translates poetry by the Nobel Prize winner into flamenco cante, giving rise to her third album ´Mi voz en tu palabra´ (‘My Voice in Your Words’). Dorantes is the show’s music director, a pianist and composer who had already taken to the jondo art’s terrain texts by Gabriel García Márquez for Lebrijano’s voice. ´A ti regreso mar´, ´Alzo una rosa´ and ´En esta esquina del tiempo´ are some of the songs which make up the disc, which has the approval of Pilar del Río, the writer’s wife. For the booklet, she has written that “now we know that José Saramago sounds in flamenco with so much magic and compás as Esperanza Fernández becomes a poet when singing”. The album, also includes the participation of the outstanding composers José Miguel Évora and Luis Pastor .
