      "Larks´ Tongues in Aspic" (1973) war das Studiodebüt des dritten King Crimson Live-Lineups. Die Band bestehend aus Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford (von Yes), John Wetton(von Family), Jamie Muir uund David Cross spielte seit dem Sommer 72 zusammmen und spielte eine kurze Tour im Oktober 72 in Deutschland und später eine ausgiebige Tour im Nov/Dez durch England. Zu der Zeit als das Album aufgenommen wurde, war die Band in Topform und hatte ein starkes Repertoire im Gepäck. Muir verließ die Band kurz nachdem die Aufnahmen fertiggestellt waren und hinterließ King Crimson mit einem stabilen und starken Lineup, das verantwortlich für den Ruf der Band als eine der einflußreichsten Studio und Live-Bands war. Das Album ist der erste Teil einer Trilogie zu der ebenfalls die Alben "Starless & Bible Black" und "Red" gehören.
