KARONTE‐JAZZ & CONTRABAIX PRESENT THE BRAND NEW ALBUM BY YOUNG
PIANIST ALBERT SANZ... ‘O QUE SERÀ’.
Over the years the young pianist ALBERT
SANZ (Valencia, 1978) has become one of
the most solid referents in the Spanish jazz
scene. At his age he has already toured
with KURT ROSENWINKEL, CHRIS CHEEK or
JOE LOVANO; and he usually participates in
JORDI ROSSY and PERICO SAMBEAT’s
projects.
A clear sign of his precocious genius can be
enjoyed in the different records he has
released during the last years: starting with
the acclaimed album “El Fabulador” (2004)
released by ALBERT SANZ Y LOS ONCE
DEDOS and considered one of the best ten
jazz Spanish records of the decade by magazine Cuadernos de Jazz, passing through “Los Guys”
together with CHRIS CHEEK, LARRY GRENADIER and JEFF BALLARD (recorded live in New York in
2003), or “Metamorfosis” (2006) with MASA KAMAGUCHI on piano and RJ MILLER on drums.
After his collaboration in one of the most successful projects of recent Spanish jazz, SILVIA PÉREZ
CRUZ & JAVIER COLINA TRIO’s “En la imaginación”, Albert Sanz goes ahead and presents a new and
ambitious recording that places him among the greatest jazz musicians of this country, being one
of the most international ones actually.
“O QUE SERÀ” (honoring Chico Buarque’s song) is the title of this new album by ALBERT SANZ
TRIO. A highly sensitive compilation of Brazilian classics from seminal authors such as Chico
Buarque, Ivan Lins and Antonio Carlos Jobim, and one jazz standard dedicated to Duke Ellington.
The pianist is accompanied here by two world‐famous jazz musicians: AL FOSTER, drummer and
former member of Miles Davis’ band; and JAVIER COLINA, one of the most renowned musicians of
global jazz, as demonstrated on collaborations with Bebo Valdés, Jerry González and Tete
Montoliú.
This is a Produccions Contrabaix released distributed by Karonte, recorded on 28th and 29th
November 2011 at Sear Sound Studios in New York by famous JAMES FARBER (Bruce Springsteen,
Al Jarreau, Perico Sambeat Flamenco Big Band).
A collection of songs of amazing musical tone and exquisite artistic quality...
“...I came to bring these two special musicians together in New York this past fall to record some of
my favourite songs. It’s not casual that two of my favourite composers and songwriters are the
Brazilian Chico Buarque and Ivan Lins, because they are very much responsible for my passion for
music in my teens. And because their melodies, forms and harmonies can naturally fit the style of
jazz where I can easily flow without having to mistreat these beautiful songs. I wanted to include a
much loved song by Jobim and an arrangement of a Duke Ellington’s song. They both are a
fountain of inspiration to me.
Sincerely, I hope you enjoy the music here presented...”
