Antonio Vivaldi
Six Concertos –
Arrangements for organ by J.S. Bach and Gunther Rost
Gunther Rost at the Hildebrandt-Orgel von St. Wenzel,
Naumburg (Saale)
In this recording, Gunther Rost brings the organ, most
frequently associated with a forceful sound, complex
polyphony and musical weight, into other spheres:
he performs some of J.S. Bach’s organ transcriptions
of Antonio Vivaldi’s instrumental concertos as well
as his own Vivaldi-transcriptions. The instrument he
chose for this recording is one of the organs considered
highly authentic for interpreting Bach’s works:
the Hildebrandt organ in St. Wenzel’s in Naumburg
(Saale). Bach himself developed the instrument’s disposition
together with the organ-builder and was later
highly positive about the results.
