“I like it that EVOLVER has the word LOVE in it, only backwards”, Mario says. “And ‘R’evolver is one of my favorite Beatles albums. In Arabic, ‘Al-Baari’ (one of the many names of Allah), the Evolver, the Maker, has the power to create things out of nothing. ‘He who forms and shapes things to his liking, out of nothing’.

When you embark on making an album, you’re in the ‘Magic-business’. You think you’re the captain of the ship, but you are not. All you can do is surrender. Raise a sail, and let the music be the wind. Let me quote three fine men who know much better than I do: Brian Eno said ‘Many beautiful things grow out of shit. Things evolve out of nothing’. Daniel Lanois said ‘My guitar tells me what to play. I don’t tell it anything’. Bob Dylan said ‘It’s not a Head-Thing, it’s a Heart-Thing’. Yeah, it’s magic.

So when I started recording EVOLVER, as always, I had nothing but a couple of words, maybe a melody, a sound, or a four-bar rhythm. There were no songs. And then I just took the guitar and pushed the record-button, to see what would happen. This is why most of the playing and the singing you hear on the record was what we call a ‘first take’. Never played before, and never after. One could say, as innocent as the first kiss. The Lyrics, as always, evolved simultaneously, but without ever listening to the music. My comrades were coffee, cigarettes, and silence. I wrote down what came to me. Almost like a secretary following her boss. When I had twelve fully written Lyric sheets I spread them all out on the floor, read them out loud, and let THEM decide which Track they wanted to live with. They never let me down.

You may ask ‘So why did it take you nine months to finish the album?’ Well, because I like songs and I’m a studio rat that likes to experiment. I’m in the Magic-business.” Mario

Mario started his One-Man-Orchestra Mobile Ethnic Minority in 2011. He had worked as a studio musician before, recording with artists from all over the world, but decided to wholeheartedly focus on his own music. From then on Mario's Munich home should become the place where everything happens. Evolver is his 16th Solo Album.
