Icelandic guitarist Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson's new album 'Lúna', with a brand-new lineup is OUT NOW on the Eclipse Music label. With some of Rögnvaldsson’s favourite musicians from the vibrant Finnish jazz scene on board the album features stellar turns from pianist Tuomas A. Turunen (Emil Brandqvist Trio), bassist Jori Huhtala (Raoul Björkenheim Ecstacy), and drummer Tatu Rönkkö (Efterklang).

The album's name 'Lúna' reflects feelings familiar to all of us from the pandemic times. However, Rögnvaldsson's compositions are far from melancholic. They are uplifting, groovy, and melodic. The overall sound of the album leans towards 70s jazz rock and fusion, accompanied by Fender Rhodes and analog synthesizers. The band's sound is rich and the improvisations are wild.

Sigurdur has been living in Helsinki, Finland since 2011 and has been an active part of the Finnish jazz scene for the last decade. 'Siggi’s' own band projects Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson’s Dark Forest, Equally Stupid, and Sähkökitarakvartetti have made several fine recordings, and he has also played as a regular member in Aili Järvelä’s band and in singer Anni Elif’s Emma-nominated project, Edith. Sigurdur also recently played, for the second time, with the highly esteemed Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Bassist Jori Huhtala is one of the busiest jazz bassists in Finland, playing in bands such as Raoul Björkenheim Ecstacy, Jussi Fredriksson Trio, and Eero Koivistonen Quartet. Drummer Tatu Rönkkö has toured the world with Efterklang, Liima, and Kalle Kallima. Pianist Tuomas A. Turunen, on the other hand, lives in France and plays around the world with the highly popular Emil Brandqvist Trio.
