Maria Moramarco, who has always been committed to the recovery and revival of oral tradition music, here interprets a lesser-known repertoire from the Alta Murgia in Bari. An evocative journey through religious dialectal singing: devotional lyrics, pilgrimage songs, archaic prayers and ancestral litanies that stimulate the exceptional vocal skills of Maria who, in this particular repertoire, demonstrates extraordinary talents in reproposing singing methods that have now disappeared, vocal techniques of a culture that has never been codified, yet is very present in these beautiful and unexplored repertoires. Maria, a researcher and interpreter, keeping faith with her scrupulous philological research, manages to reach levels of communication with the public of great spiritual fascination thanks to her particular way of 'singing the voice'. Maria Moramarco comes from a family of 'singers' and is a language teacher at a secondary school. Her repertoire contains a large number of Murgia songs performed with the Uaragniaun group and collected through a patient research that began in the 1970s and was never completed. Stella Ariènte is a pilgrimage song expressing pathos, devotion, faith. On the way to the sanctuary, the song is a prayer and dramatic invocation for the return of one's brother from the war or for the recovery from a terrible illness, the song is an expression of the ritual of thanksgiving for the victory over opposing forces, for the grace received, while barefoot, with dishevelled hair and a crawling tongue, one goes towards the altar.
