They were facing a challenging trip, that seemed almost an impossible feat. 500 years later, composer Dorantes hoists sails in Mairena de Aljarafe with 5 movements for piano, Orchestra and Flamenco Choir to tell us everything about this unusual trip. Dorantes is the heir of an unparalleled dynasty of Flamenco artists.
His grandmother is María La Perrata. His father is guitar player Pedro
Peña. His uncle is flamenco singer El Lebrijano. That is the reason
why, his blood is made of both flamenco culture and music. Dorantes
achieved a Degree in Harmony, Composition and Piano at Seville’s
Royal Conservatoire of Music. Since his debut in France in 1996, he
has had an unstoppable career. At the moment, he is one of the most
internationally acclaimed flamenco artists. He has also been elected as
an honorary member of the INSTITUTE OF GYPSY CULTURE and
has received more than a hundred prestigious awards, such as several
Giraldillos from Seville’s Flamenco Biennal, the Gold Medal of the
province of Seville, the Spanish National Critics Award for his
discography and the “Joaquin de la Orden” Music Award.
