DIEGO AMADOR
There is a new generation of flamenco musicians capable of resolving, quite naturally,
the dilemma that confronts tradition with innovation. The Sevillian DIEGO AMADOR is
perhaps the most brilliant of them all, a self-taught musician who bewitches with his
inventions. Pianist, guitarist and “cantaor”, Diego is a total artist who represents better
than anyone –nowadays- the admirable vitality of flamenco.
At the age of nineteen, he had the opportunity to record his first album titled "Anticipo
Flamenco" (Philips, 1994) where he showed his early passion for jazz and piano. The album
was produced by Ricardo Pachón and featured the collaboration of the Cuban singer Omara
Portuondo.
In his following CDs “El aire de lo puro” (Nuevos Medios, 2001) y “Piano Jondo”
(Nuevos Medios, 2003), bluntly stands out his way of playing the piano -as if it was a
guitar-, which has become his identity hallmark and has led him to be recognized as a
great master of the flamenco piano.
Concurrently, he consolidated himself as a superb flamenco Singer, his powerful flamenco
voice and his personal and free style were embodied in his next work “Río de los
Canasteros” (Nuevos Medios, 2008). That was the year of his first nomination for “Best
Flamenco Album” on the Latin Grammy Awards.
Then would come “Live in Paris / Flamenco Jazz Tribute”, a tribute to the
great masters who had inspired him throughout his career... Bill Evans, Paco Lucía,
Camarón de la Isla, Juan Talega, Aníbal Troilo, Horacio Salgán, among others…
In 2013, he recorded his sixth album "Scherzo Flamenco" and the international press
described him as “one of the most brilliant flamenco pianists of all times”.
He spent some time in Miami and México where he recorded “Soy de las 3000” (for
Alacran Records, 2017) album in which Diego gives prominence to “el cante” (the
singing) and explores the world of Salsa and Latin rhythms escorted by two great
masters of Latin Music: his compatriot Alejandro Sanz and the Venezuelan Oscar
D'León known as "El Pharaoh of Salsa". With this album, produced by Cuban musician
and arranger Alain Pérez, Diego played at the most important Latin American stages,
reaching the number 1 on Billboard's Tropical Songs list with 'La Sandunguita'.
DIEGO AMADOR has collaborated with major Flamenco artists such as Camarón de la
Isla, Diego El Cigala, Tomatito o Remedios Amaya, and has shared the stage with
main figures of contemporary Jazz, such as Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden,
Luis Salinas, Abraham Laboriel y Alex Acuña, among others.
Again, with the complicity of NUEVOS MEDIOS, the music label that cemented his
reputation and asserted his personality as a musician, DIEGO AMADOR is ready to
launch the next stage in his career, plunging into the vast Spanish and Hispano-
American Popular Songbook. “VIVIR (TO LIVE)” is the title of his new work, with two
advances as singles “Dentro de tu alma (Inside Your Soul)” (José Manuel Ortega
Heredia “Manzanita”) and “Vivir” (Diego Amador).
VIVIR
Diego Amador, known as "The Gypsy Ray Charles", surprises us with his eighth new

“Dentro de tu alma (Inside your soul)." It’s the first single, a version of Manzanita’s
theme popularized in the '80s. "Vivir (To Live)", is the second single from the album.
