      Description hide

After ten years since its establishment, and one year after winning the most honorable prize of them all – ‘The Israel Prize’, the orchestra is back with a new cd, produced with the help of the Ashdod municipality. Ashdod is one of 4 seaports in Israel (with Eilat, Haifa, and Gaza), and its economic importance to Israel is very high.

The new album, their 13th, ‘Ashdod Yam’ (Ashdod’s first name), is a celebration and a gesture to the city of Ashdod, the home of the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra. Ashdod Yam is a colorful and captivating collection of insturmental pieces.

The entire album can be described as a chilly, fast and restless wind, that travels through different countries. It starts in Russia, going all the way to the Balkan, to Greece, Germany, south of Spain, going down to North Africa, and arriving to the Ashdod sea-shore (only to start the journey again).

We won’t exaggerate if we’ll say that this album is the mixture between the orchestra’s musicians : Jews, Arabs, Russians, Christians – All meet in the Ashdod seaport, to create the perfect sinergy of sounds, smells, and colors that is manifested as the orchestra’s most perfect album to date.

Ashdod Yam is the orchestra’s most comunicative album, a fact that doesn’t effect the music’s quality. On the conterary, the orchestra had managed to keep its abilities, to improve them and to serve the music in such a unique sound envelope, that no listener can sit still…
