Many will recognize Turid Spildo from the popular Norwegian group Dvergmål. which was formed when the musicians, all from other parts of Norway met. They released their first cd in 1996, which was nominated for the Norwegian Grammy award.
This time Turid Spildo is back with a new recording, this time all by herself. Turid sings a material which consists of folk-tunes from the West-coast of Norway. Turid Spildo also plays the Hardanger-fiddle and the organ.
The tunes on this album have been collected by the schoolteacher from Sogn og Fjordane, North-West in Norway: Olav sande (1850-1927) in the period 1880-1904. Turid Spildo has selected 16 of the tunes, mostly ballads, and she rehearsed on them, and arranged them on Island. (Turid has arranged all the tunes, except for the track Knut Hjuring, which was arranged by Leiv Solberg, who is a producer on Nykkjen) The young musician Turid Spildo, keeps old tradition alive, by releasing this beautiful album, and her pure voice and expression has a deep soul.
