This is my new album. I expect to honour my Andalucian roots with it.
The title EL MAN SUR is a word game and I play with its meaning once again... Man from the south? Why
not? But also the Arab commander who caused trouble to Christians in 10th Century called Almanzor, that
is also the name of the highest peak of Gredos mountain range, drawn on the CD cover.
Musically speaking, on this album you will find some musical genres which sound very flamenco:
fandangos, rondeñas, guajiras, bulerías, alegrías... but belong to oral tradition music and are the ones
from which flamenco once drank.
In the other hand, there are also some Northern music on the album, some self-penned compositions and
one Portuguese song. In addition to my own lyrics, the songs feature traditional texts, other ones written
by Lope de Vega and Garcia Lorca, and one contribution from an Andalucian friend of mine named J.M.
Labrador. The musicians who made possible EL MAN SUR were my usual band: Eduardo Laguillo, Josete
Ordóñez, Xavi Lozano, Guillem Aguilar, Aleix Tobías and Pablo Martin.
I also want to thank the special participation on the album of Kepa Junkera, Diego Galaz, Roqui Albero,
Luismi Novas, David Torrico and Las Piojas.
I expect and wish that all these songs will bring joy to your life just to fulfil the most important mission
that, in my opinion, music has: to be a therapy for the spirit.
