On their fourth studio album Valkyrien Allstars continues with their unique sound in the gray zone between the traditional and the modern. The group has gone from a quintet to a quartet when fiddler Ola Hilmen has chosen to take a longer break .
The band now consists of : Tuva Livsdatter Syvertsen, Erik Sollid, Magnus Larsen and Martin Langlie.
Regarding the material, the songs on this album is in a greater degree self-composed material than what have been on earlier releases. There are still elements of traditional fiddle tunes and old broadside ballads, but it is their own lyrics and melodies that dominate this release.
The band has, in collaboration with co-producer Bugge Wesseltoft, been thoroughly working with the songs, and really taking advantage of the opportunities that exist in Amper Tone studio where the album was recorded with Bård Ingebrigtsen behind the mixing desk. The result is characterized by the contrast between the large, fierce and the close, intimate and direct expression so typical of the Norwegian traditional music .
The sound is a bit expanded since the previous release, the band members play multiple instruments and both Bård Ingebrigtsen and Bugge Wesseltoft contribute musically.
