      “The voice of Postango”

Marina Cedro, a magnetic Argentinian lady , is a singular figurehead, a strong-headed personality who knows to share her emotions through the piano, through her songs, through texts written and spoken by herself, and through reinventing timeless tangos in her very own style, minimalist and under high tension. Marina Cedro does this, and much more [.] She is both a feline dancer and a restless juggler of words: those of a lunar poetry that drops its anchor in a foreign port. Rémy Kolpa Kopoul - ConneXionneur - Radio Nova

      MARINA CEDRO
      Argentinian author, composer and singer

A singer, pianist, composer, Marina Cedro personifies tango and the « porteño » spirit, impregnated with a modern approach. An artist of many talents, Marina moves from the piano to singing, with her expressive voice, from poetry to dance, all with sensitivity and incredible ease, in a deliberately contemporary way.

Coming from Argentina, she cast her anchor at La Rochelle, on the French Atlantic coast, after having settled in Spain at first, then moving on to Paris. And then, she casts ink on paper - the words are the sounds of her steps.

She started young. At the age of 8, she already played her tangos at the mythical Café Tortoni in Buenos Aires, a meeting point for the intellectual elite of the city. The music conservatory and theatre lessons, followed and then, the highly rated London College of Art. Europe adopts her: She creates her own shows there, forms ensembles and realizes performances that are brilliantly named: Poetango, El Ciclo de las Palabras (the Cycle of Words), Cie La Maga (the Magician), Cie TangOpera, Tango Trilogie, and later, two creations named Amor à Dos

Marina Cedro cultivates the art of the minimal in infinite, unexplored spaces. When the opportunity presents itself, she works both on the stage and in her writing as a duo (Amo Agora, a poetry collection at two with the Portugese Casimiro de Brito).

As for the music, a first album piano/voice, “Marina Cedro Itinerario” is released in 2007; a second one, with the addition of a bandoneon, called “Marina Cedro Tango”, follows in 2010. After those two, there are some rich and intense encounters, in particular with Juan Carlos Caceres, with Art Mengo, and with the immense Argentinian pianist and composer Gustavo Beytelmann (Gotan Project) and other Latino accomplices. A new album, Cronicas, will be on release on the 31st March, 2014. The music can already be discovered in concert now (see all the dates below). Diving profoundly into the keys, Marina Cedro’s tango is felt the female way, taking us on a journey in the shape of a poetic odyssey.

To finish on an (ever so slightly) presumptuous note, I dare to divert and to tamper with the text of the immense tango poet Homero Manzi (1941), ‘Malena’: “Marina sings the tango like no other Putting her heart into each verse. The wild weeds of the suburbs perfume her voice.” If he had encountered Miss Cedro, who knows? Señor Manzi might have changed the name of his muse…”
