Three years have gone by since Elin Furubotn released her previous album with Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. The duet “Så let det kan ver”, with Morten Abel, was a summer hit. Now she is presenting her 7th album: Ikkje gå deg vill (Grappa). This time Furubotn is forging a new path. At the controls as producers in Elektrolud Studio are Morten Abel and Børge Fjordheim in addition to Furubotn herself.

With elements such as choir, violin, trumpet and a variety of guitars, the musicians have created a playful, exciting and warm atmosphere around the songs. The album features Børge Fjordheim (choir, drummer from Sivert Høyem and others), Morten Abel (guitars, bass, choir), Torbjørn Økland (ex-Vamp, mandolin, guitars, trumpet), Renate Engevold (strings, choir), Magnus Røed Haugland (double bass) and Elin Furubotn (acoustic guitar, vocals). Elin Furubotn is a radio-friendly artist. Several of her songs have been featured on Norwegian radio in the past eight years, and several have been given priority airplay, including “I det stille” and “Så let det kan ver”.

Furubotn was searching for a place where she could “get away from it all” and create her music. She discovered a small crofter’s farm in Tonstad, a mountain valley in southwestern Norway, the area where she spent most of her childhood. The album bears clear evidence of the natural surroundings there, where the mountains and the river were sources of inspiration for her melodies. Norwegian folk tales are also a part of the setting, and in her little red writer’s cottage Elin feels that her idol, Pippi Longstocking, is close by.

Her lyrics describe the vagaries of everyday life with humour, seriousness and reflection. Among the things we hear about are what a son who recently moved away from home asks for when his mother rings him a little too often, how one does not always want the advice of one’s partner, the way that time suddenly goes by more quickly than one thought it would, or how dangerous it can be if someone goes astray and fails to help others.

Furubotn has released a new album every second year since 2006, and is still intrigued by developing her music. Several of her songs have been aired on Norway’s main radio station, and she has released her music internationally with glowing reviews in Germany, for instance. In 2013 Elin Furubotn won an Indie Award in Colorado, USA, for the album Heilt ny vei.
