      Description hide

Cajun musicians accordionist Alphonse “Bois Sec” Ardoin and fiddler Canray Fontenot recorded their first album in 1966 in Falls Church, Virginia, over a thousand miles from their homes in Louisiana. From the 1960s into the 1990s “Bois Sec” (Dry Wood) and Canray Fontenot were two of the best-known exponents of authentic Creole music. Their impact on presenting and preserving Creole music led to their being designated National Heritage Fellows by the National Endowment for the Arts. This collection includes their 1966 recording—one of the first made by African American Cajun musicians—and selections from early 1970s sessions.
